#Adani: Double blow for anti-coal green activism

August 28, 2017 Tara

Statement by Queensland Resources Council (QRC), Chief Executive, Ian Macfarlane.

The campaign by anti-coal green activists has been dealt a double blow with the Federal Court dismissing two challenges to the Adani Carmichael mine.
In its decision, the court ruled against the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) andAdrian Burragubba a member of the Wangan and Jagalingou people. Both parties continue to use the legal system as a delaying tactic to projects already approved by both the state and federal governments.
It is disappointing that green activists are holding back massive job creating resources projects at a time when regional Queensland is crying out for employment. It’s time these extreme tactics of environmental activists are exposed and their misrepresentation of the truth should not prevent the economic development in Queensland. Sadly, the behaviour of these groups suggests they are more interested in grandstanding to raise funds from the public than they are in delivering real environmental outcomes on the ground.
Again, the QRC calls on both the state and federal governments to fix the mechanisms that enable green activists to ‘disrupt and delay’ resources projects through this merry-go-round of litigation.
