Coal mine worker seriously injured in fall at wash plant

A 57-year-old coal mine worker has been seriously injured following a reported 10-metre fall at Glencore’s Collinsville Coal Mine.

The incident reportedly occurred just before 8 am this morning.

The injured coal mine worker received serious injuries including back and pelvic injuries when he fell from a platform at the wash plant.

He was taken to Collinsville Hospital before being transported to Townsville Hospital in a serious but stable condition. The injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Glencore said the Mines Inspectorate has been notified and an investigation had commenced.

“Our focus is on the care and welfare of our employee and we are putting in place support for the family and his work colleagues,” the company said in a statement to AMSJ.

AMSJ will continue to provide updates as they come to hand.

The incident follows a fatal accident last night at Baralaba Mine and another fatal accident last week.
