Limited mining allowed at Appin

August 23, 2017 Tara

Following notice on June 28 for South32’s Appin Colliery to cease operations, the New South Wales Resources Regulator has now permitted limited mining operations.

The Regulator issued prohibition notices after safety and compliance concerns were identified.

South 32 supplied a detailed restart plan to the regulator, which identified immediate, medium and long-term actions to resume mining operations. And the regulator has now issued a new prohibition notice which allows the limited restart of production activities.

This is based on the company completing several immediate remedial actions.
