The underground mine worker who fell from height at the Saracen Minerals Dervish mine on Monday has passed away.
In a statement released to the ASX this afternoon, Saracen Minerals said the underground contractor involved in the incident at its Dervish mine 120 kilometres north-west of Kalgoorlie had died of injuries sustained in the incident.
Saracen Managing Director Raleigh Finlayson expressed sympathy to the worker’s family, friends and colleagues.
“This is an extremely tragic accident and all our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time,” Mr Finlayson said.
He said that Saracen was working closely with the WA DMIRS Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety who were investigating the incident.
The company will work with the contractor to ensure full support was given to the family and all Saracen employees and contractors.
Operations at Saracen’s Carosue Dam operations which include the Dervish mine remain suspended.
The company was expected to provide another update on Wednesday on the resumption of operations at the mine.
