Miner Death: Yandicoogina mine worker in Pilbara

Rio Tinto has confirmed the death of a man in his early 50s at their Pilbara mine site in Western Australia.

The worker died at its Yandicoogina iron ore mine, following a serious incident at the site.

Reported by the ABC last night,

“Emergency services are on scene. Rio Tinto has advised the relevant authorities and will assist their investigations.

“The company will provide all the necessary support for the employee’s family and colleagues during this difficult time.”

Police have launched an investigation into his death. The Department of Mines and Petroleum is also investigating what happened.
