State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers around Queensland will be better-equipped to help the community prepare for and respond to emergency events with NRMA Insurance today announcing it will extend its partnership with the Queensland SES for two more years.
Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan made the announcement during the Wear Orange Wednesday celebrations in Brisbane’s CBD, and said the principal partnership would reap significant benefits for Queenslanders.
“We have been working closely with NRMA Insurance in the Queensland community for 10 years, and with their continued support we will be able to help even more residents through our storm preparedness education campaigns, and by providing vital equipment for our volunteers,” Minister Ryan said.
“I am pleased to announce this new partnership on Wear Orange Wednesday, a day when Australians bring out their brightest orange clothes and accessories to recognise and thank SES volunteers for the huge contribution they make to our safety and wellbeing.”
Jacki Johnson, Group Executive People, Performance and Reputation for NRMA Insurance’s parent company IAG, said the insurer is proud to continue its support of the Queensland SES through the partnership.
“We have seen first-hand the vital role the SES play in helping Queenslanders in times of need, and have worked side-by-side in the community recovery effort following events like Tropical Cyclone Debbie,” Ms Johnson said.
“Through our principal partnership with the SES we will be investing in helping communities be more prepared for severe weather events, as well as equipping volunteers with the resources and tools to help affected communities get back on their feet faster following disasters.”
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) SES Assistant Commissioner Peter Jeffrey said the support from NRMA Insurance will provide SES volunteers with highly valued equipment and resources that they will use when assisting Queenslanders with storms and other emergencies.
“There are more than 6000 SES volunteers in Queensland who are trained and ready to respond when they’re needed,” Mr Jeffrey said.
“Only recently they were called on to assist communities in north, central and south east Queensland during severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the subsequent flooding events, responding to 8000 requests for assistance.
“I would like to thank NRMA Insurance for their ongoing support helping the SES provide these important services to Queenslanders.”
