The NSW mining industry will come under increased scrutiny next week after the NSW regulator announced a blitz on safety across the mining sector.
“We will conduct a state-wide compliance blitz next week across all sectors of the mining industry.” NSW Resource Regulator.
The Regulator said that the high visibility operation will involve about 85 safety and compliance inspectors conducting unannounced inspections at more than 100 coal, metalliferous and quarrying operations throughout NSW.

While the nature of specific site inspections remains unknown, the regulator said that inspections will focus on:
- general compliance with mining regulations and site safety management systems;
- the standard of supervision and the behaviours and effectiveness of supervisors in dealing with non-compliances to the mines own safety management system;
- rehabilitation of mine sites.
Mine operators are urged to review their operations to ensure that they are compliant with all work health and safety and Mining Act legislative requirements. Inspectors will be taking action where non-compliances are detected.
The blitz on safety may include enforcement options include written warnings, statutory directions, penalty notices, prosecution and cancellation of authorities.
