The NSW Resources Regulator is seeking comment from interested stakeholders on proposed amendments to the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013 and Regulation (WHS (MPS) laws).
The Resources Regulator’s Director Regulatory Programs Tony Linnane said this was part of ongoing consultation with the mining and petroleum industries to ensure the laws are achieving their intended aims.

“Last year the Resources Regulator facilitated a statutory review of these laws and we are seeking industry stakeholders’ views on the recommendations for legislative change that were made in the review report,” Mr Linnane said.
The report on the statutory review of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013 and Regulation by independent reviewer Kym Bills made 40 recommendations about the WHS (MPS) laws.
“It was agreed that further consultation with industry stakeholders was necessary for 15 of the recommendations made in the report because they are complex and require legislative reform,” Mr Linnane said.
“We have also identified a number of other matters to consult on regarding amendments to improve the regulatory framework.”
The public consultation will start on Monday 19 April 2021 with the release of a discussion paper and will remain open until 17 May 2021.
