Prostate Cancer Awareness – How Can You Help?

September 19, 2018 Tara

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is asking Australia to get involved and help create awareness and raise the much-needed funds to help in the fight against prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Australia with almost 20,000 diagnoses and close to 3,500 deaths each year.

All men over 50 – or over 40 if you have a family history of Prostate Cancer or Breast Cancer – should talk with your GP about your prostate health. Prostate cancer testing can be a complex subject, and that is why you should talk to your GP about what is best for you.

Prostate cancer is usually a slow-growing illness and most men with low-grade prostate cancer live for many years without symptoms or without the cancer becoming life-threatening. However, high-grade prostate cancer will spread rapidly and can be lethal.

What Can You Do To Help Spread The Word?

This September we are helping the #GetChecked movement by spreading the word on social media to encourage men to have a health check and talk to their doctor about prostate cancer. If you or people you know are active on social media this is an easy way to take part.
