Hunter Executive Search Consultants are currently working in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy to source a new Chief Inspector of Mines in Queensland.

Could you be the right candidate?
The right candidate will have an extensive strategic leadership background with proven commercial capabilities in an organisation within the mining industry, you will have good political acumen and the ability to develop relationships with critical stakeholders that will need to be effectively managed and communicated with.
This is an important role for our client and will require someone who is highly efficient, strategic, personable and holds themselves accountable.
The role:
- Provide effective leadership to the Mines Inspectorate, encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and development.
- Advocate DNRME’s Vision, Values and Strategic Plan to all stakeholders.
- Deliver the Mines Inspectorate Business Operational Plan, including inspections, audits and investigations into accidents and incidents and reported breaches of legislation.
- Provide professional and timely advice on strategic, technical and operational matters to the Executive Director Resource Safety and Health, Director-General DNRME and Minister.
- Engage with all relevant stakeholders including employers, workers, unions, industry organisations and government agencies, to maintain effective working relationships to secure commitment to the government’s objectives and enhance confidence in the role of the regulator.
- Participate on relevant committees and working groups.
- Maintain an awareness of developments in the mining industry including operating methods, technology advancement, equipment and products, as they impact upon safety and health.
What you need:
- 15+ Years’ experience in the mining industry.
- QLD First Class Mine Managers Certificate of Competency is highly desirable
- Proven successful long-term experience in a commercial strategic leadership position.
- Ability to negotiate firmly and tactfully in sensitive or difficult situations with a range of stakeholders.
- Experience building strategic professional relationships with multiple contacts for the long-term benefit of the department.
- Demonstrated knowledge of standards, legislation, policies and procedures relevant to safety and health pertaining to the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and/or Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999
