Regulator publishes new WHS undertaking

The NSW Resources Regulator has agreed to a WHS undertaking with Coal & Allied (NSW) Pty Ltd in relation to an incident in 2014.

On 2 October 2014, a worker was ejected from an access ladder on a Grader at the Mount Thorley Warkworth Mine. The worker was standing on the access ladder of the grader to clean the outside glass of the cabin window. The ladder rose inadvertently when the cabin door was closed. The worker fell from the ladder about 1.5 metres to the ground and suffered very serious injuries.

As part of the undertaking, Coal & Allied (NSW) Pty Ltd has agreed to provide $345,000 to develop and deliver a safety project that is targeted at young people of school leaving age that has the capacity to improve industry performance in the longer term.

The full signed agreement and the reasons for the undertaking are available here.
