In 2014 toxfree was awarded the 2014 Chamber of Minerals and energy award for safety Innovation for the development of a Confined space i-Watch surveillance system. We were also recognised as a winner for 'Innovation' by the australian Business awards in 2014 for the development of same system. toxfree's i-Watch surveillance system utilises a specially adapted high definition digital video camera with Wi-Fi capability to monitor the movements of operators within confined spaces. the video camera is mounted on the operator's helmet or chest and footage of the confined space is sent via Wi-fi to a tablet being monitored by the sentry on the outside of the confined space. the camera is light weight and compact so it doesn't contribute to a handling hazard. the technology has significant health and safety benefits, including; o • the footage is provided in real time and can be used to assist in keeping continual contact with the operator where line of site is sometimes difficult, • the footage can be used for training, confined space risk assessments and pre start inspections, • Customers are able to review the footage in real time enabling them to assess the job thoroughly and sign off on the completed task. this reduces the need for the client to enter the confined space. Mounting the camera on a telescopic attachment also allows an assessment of the confined space without the need to enter a tank or confined space. Having contained the cameras in a waterproof casing allows it to be subjected to a variety of substances that can be wiped away and the cameras remain intact. an advantage to using the i-Watch surveillance system is that as soon as areas of concern are identified, communication via handheld radio takes place immediately and assessments of the surrounding areas can occur to identify solutions. If required, a decision can be made to stop work immediately until adequate controls have been implemented to reduce the inherent risk operators are exposed to. Where the risk is too extreme, resulting in the work being postponed, the footage allows the customer to assess the situation and assist in implementing appropriate controls to reduce, if not eliminate, the risk/s without having to enter the confined space to assess the situation. steve Gostlow, toxfree Managing director says "at toxfree, our values are safe, reliable and sustainable and our safety innovation, i-Watch safety surveillance, is a relatively simple innovation that was developed in the field by our industrial service operators. this award just goes to show you that improving safety in the workplace is not necessarily about how much money you spend. It's about creating a culture of where every employee has the confidence to make suggestions to improve safety in the workplace". With over 57 facilities nationally and employing a team of over 1100 experienced and qualified staff, toxfree has a portfolio of treatment technologies and technical expertise to enable the cost effective remediation and treatment of a broad range of solid, liquid, industrial and hazardous waste.
