NEIGHBORING ISLANDS THE OBEROI, BALI & THE OBEROI, LOMBOK S AME L UXU R Y THE OBEROI, BALI The Oberoi, Bali is a beautifully landscaped resort, with a beach-side swimming pool, in 15 acres of tropical gardens. 14 Villas have a walled courtyard ensuring absolute privacy, a dining pavilion for intimate dining, air conditioned bedroom and en suite bathroom. Most have their own full size swimming pool. The 60 Lanai rooms feature a terrace for outdoor dining, and a luxurious air conditioned bathroom with sunken bath. The Kura Kura restaurant has an appetising selection of dishes, with Indonesian, Continental and Asian specialities. The beach-side Frangipani Cafe is a celebrated spot for al fresco dining. A HISTORY OF THE OBEROI, BALI Originally built in 1974 as an exclusive private club named "Kayu Aya", on the site of an ancient village, it was a multi-million dollar cluster of villas for the world's wealthy and famous. The team of Balinese skilled craftsmen and artisans laboured for more than two years to combine the comforts of the West with the mystique of the East. In February 1978, Oberoi Hotels & Resorts entered into a Management Agreement with P.T. Widja Putra Karya to operate "Hotel Bali Oberoi" as it was initially known. The property was closed for 6 months for renovations and upgrading of facilities to the standards of a luxury resort. On 5th August 1978, Hotel Bali Oberoi opened for business with 63 rooms (14 villas, one Presidential villa 26 THE RETIREE SUMMER with swimming pool and 48 lanai rooms), one Restaurant and one Bar. The resort was welcomed as Bali's first exclusive beach resort under the personal guidance of The Oberoi Group's founding Chairman, late Rai Bahadur M.S. Oberoi. In 1980, the second upgrading of the hotel was undertaken with the addition of 12 lanai rooms. A Spa and a Tennis Court were also added. Between 1988 and 1999, the third and most ambitious multi million dollar upgrading of the hotel was launched. All villas, lanais and public area cottages were rebuilt, existing plant and machinery facilities upgraded and a new spa with fully equipped fitness centre introduced. The Boutique and the Gallery also opened as additional facility for guests offering unique jewelry, objects d'art and handicrafts. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The Oberoi, Bali today offers every convenience required of an exclusive resort. THE OBEROI, LOMBOK A touch of Paradise on the neighbouring island to Bali. This 24 acre resort has direct beach frontage with views of the Gili islands, famous for their coral reefs and scuba diving opportunities. Reflecting pools and a 40 metre swimming pool stretch from the open air lobby to the tranquil waters of Medana Bay. A PADI certified Dive Centre provides popular water sports and the Health Spa includes open air massage pavilions, herbal baths, jacuzzi and steam room. Services in the Beauty Salon offer facial massage and body treatments. Two restaurants offer a variety of dishes with a very high standard of cuisine. The thatch roof 20 Villas and 30 Pavilions are furnished in striking colours and primitive art of the region. Each has large air-conditioned bedrooms with en suite bathroom. Most of the Villas have a swimming pool within their walled courtyards.
