Constant monitoring and detailed record-keeping relating to equipment inspections, scheduled servicing, oil analysis etc., ensures high availability and therefore better productivity for its clients. Salmon Earthmoving also boasts exceptional capabilities in heavy haulage, specialising in the transport of earthmoving and mining equipment. With many years of experience in heavy and over dimensional haulage, the company now has a fleet of low loaders up to 100 T capacity and prime movers rated up to 140 T. These are used for predominantly internal transport of equipment, components and parts to various projects and field locations. The company was originally founded in the mid 1940s by Peter Salmon, who was predominately involved in the timber and logging industry. From a young age, Peter's eldest son, Gary, soon took a keen interest helping his father and in the early 1970s started Salmon & Son – which remains as the group's trading name. Under Gary Salmon's direction, the company expanded to become a major service provider to the mining and construction industries and a respected identity in equipment rental along the east coast of Australia. The early 1990s saw Gary's eldest son, Nick, commence his apprenticeship with Caterpillar as a diesel fitter and after completion joined the family company. In 2005 the company expanded overseas, undertaking projects in the Nickel mining sector of New Caledonia – a Pacific Island and French territory. This expansion saw Gary's youngest son, Chris, join the management team to develop a significant equipment rental and mechanical service operation there. With the new generation of family bringing fresh ideas, the family company doesn't lose sight of its simple core values in the provision of quality equipment and maintenance services at competitive prices.
