Mining developments prompt renewed focus on steel pipeline construction A significant increase in water supply infrastructure development to support Queensland's mining boom has been a catalyst for a revived steel pipeline construction industry. Murphy Pipe and Civil Managing Director Jim Campbell said he was pleased to see renewed energy within Queensland's steel pipeline construction sector after a number of years of decline. "Our company has been successful in diversifying our capabilities to service the coal seam gas sector's demand for HDPE gathering pipelines in the Surat Basin, but we are still predominantly a steel pipeline construction operation so it is certainly good to see a reinvigoration of our core area of operations," Campbell said. "While we have won major contracts to deliver large-scale water pipeline projects in Victoria and have firmly established our company into the Western Australian mining sector, we look forward to servicing further pipeline construction growth in our own home State. "With so many mining developments under way throughout Queensland's Bowen and Galilee basins, and mine owners now actively seeking additional water supply security, I think this is a great opportunity for the entire Queensland pipeline construction industry," he said. Campbell said a rapid return to the previous levels of steel pipeline construction activity within Queensland would not pose any problems for Murphy Pipe and Civil. "Our core management team and a significant proportion of our construction crews played key roles in the delivery of the 218km Burdekin to Moranbah Pipeline in 2008, as well as earlier water pipeline projects such as the Eungella Pipeline Project. "This previous history of delivering these types of strategic development projects for Queensland means our team is well-primed and ready to deliver once again.
