Close Call Accident
Surface – Sand & Gravel – A front-end loader was hit by a train while crossing the railroad tracks. The miner was uninjured and the frontend loader remained upright.

Best Practices
• Install signage and warning devices to alert miners of
approaching locomotives at road crossings or other high traffic
areas.
• Designate safe areas where equipment can be operated or
parked near train tracks and crossings.
• Always yield to an oncoming locomotive. Never try to
“beat the train”. Review procedures to ensure all
possible hazards have been identified and appropriate
controls are in place to protect persons.
• Stay in a safe location where you are not exposed to
hazards when working near moving locomotives.
