businesses and workers will be able to comply more easily with their work health and safety responsibilities because the requirements will largely be the same, regardless of the number of states and territories in which they operate.
Safe Work Australia will revise the draft model WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice based on an analysis of the written submissions received through the public comment process. A final version will then be submitted to WRMC for consideration in mid 2011, with the recommendation of its adoption into law by all jurisdictions by the end of 2011.

Rex Hoy is Chief Executive Officer of Safe Work Australia. Hoy has over 40 years’ experience in the Australian public service and has held various senior executive positions in several departments and agencies. This included working as a Group Manager in Workplace Relations Policy in the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. This area dealt with policy for Commonwealth work health and safety and workers’ compensation.
Prior to his current position Hoy worked for four years as a Deputy Secretary for the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in its counterpart department in Papua New Guinea under the Australia-PNG Enhanced Cooperation Program.

Rex has a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics from the University of New England and is a member of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (SRCC).
